Summer '09

It's been way too long since I've written. Facebook seems to take up much of my computer time.
The Italy show was a success, I sold seven paintings and the everyone else sold at least three. A very popular landscape to so many in Maine who suffer from long cold winters and equally long cold springs.
Had shoulder surgery last week and am recuperating and impatient. I have two commission pieces to complete in the next week....small and doable. Will post when I'm finished.

Facebook and Italy

I'm not sure whether it's a good thing or a bad thing but Facebook can use up a lot of time! It's been fun reconnecting with friends from long ago especially high school classmates. I did not enjoy high school and couldn't wait to get out of my hometown. Pressure, social and academic, parental and hormonal...you name it I suffered under it. So it's been wonderful to reconnect and get to know people who were unformed when last we knew each other and have led interesting and sometimes inspiring lives. Not much studio time this week, not all attributed to Facebook. Looking forward to much more production next week as I head to the mountain to ski this afternoon.

"Inspiration Italy" is a show I'm working on for June at Cygnet Gallery, Portland, Maine with a number of other artists. Many Mainers seem to travel regularly to Italy probably to escape the cold but more likely to see undulating landscapes and ancient culture ( not much of which is here in Maine). I've invited artists who are Italy regulars to show work inspired by the place. I've just started but here are two pieces that might be finished.

My Inspiration

Here are a few pictures of my farm. I will see it again in May when the snow in Maine finally melts.

Painted Itself

The above is a painting I did in 2005 and I still think about how good it felt to paint it.It's sold to a wonderful couple who have since moved and carried it to Shang Hai.

Blogging is new to me and it will be some time before I'm comfortable with it. I've been amazed at the many artists who share their wisdom, their challenges and their technical know how with all who read their blogs and share their interest. I'm interested in hearing the process of others as well as sharing my own.

To be continued...
